Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Service was good although we felt a little rushed to order, which is understandable given it was a Sunday. Once the food arrived we were happy with the portions. My chicken burger was just ok in terms of flavour but everyone else enjoyed their meal. They are very dog friendly as a pub even with a doggy menu both in terms of hot food and pre made. We would go back again!

Absolutely Cracking Pub – Worth Every Mile (and Every Bite!)
The Anchor in Danbury isn’t just a pub – it’s a proper gem, the kind of place you stumble across and then wonder why you haven’t been coming for years. We popped in for lunch after reading a few glowing reviews, and let’s just say – they were spot on. We’re now proudly declaring ourselves repeat customers in the making.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with big smiles, a genuinely friendly welcome, and plenty of parking (which, let’s be honest, is already half the battle won). We parked up, strolled in, and ended up sitting outside in the sunny little garden, which felt like our own private corner of the countryside. If you’re after a peaceful bite in beautiful surroundings, this is it.
Now the food – wow. I had the steak, cooked to absolute perfection, and the sauce? I could have bathed in it. My fiancée had the chicken burger and I’ve never seen her eat something so fast. I usually get a solid commentary on everything she eats (and everything I do wrong), but for a glorious five minutes, there was silence. Blissful, burger-fuelled silence.
We washed it all down with a proper pint of Stella for me and a Cinzano and lemonade for her – both ice-cold and perfectly poured, (Although she had to taste test my pint for educational purposes?)
Prices were more than reasonable too, especially considering the quality.
The pub itself is spotless, charming, and just feels… right. Everything about it gives off that “you’re welcome here” vibe – it’s got character without trying too hard, and you can tell the team genuinely care.
We drove nearly an hour to get there, and we’ll do it again. And again. And probably again after that. Honestly, if you haven’t been to The Anchor yet, stop what you’re doing and sort that out. You’ll thank me later.

Lovely Sunday dinner, very polite and attentive staff. Will go back when it is warmer as then can also have a drink outside as limited bar area, as mainly catered for food

We were looking for somewhere to eat, having just arrived at our holiday accommodation in Little Baddow. Did a quick Google to see where there was close by. The Anchor came up & looked good. We tried to call for a booking but we had no signal on our phones. We decided to take a chance, and we are so glad we did. What a fabulous find. Large car park and play area out back. Lots of flowers adorn the outside, absolutely beautiful. There are lots of outside tables and dog drinking bowls, nice touch. As we went inside, we could see how busy they were. It looked doubtful that we would get a table. However, after asking the young barman, if he could squeeze us in, a table was found. We found all of the staff efficient and friendly. A great choice on the menu and specials board. All four of us enjoyed our delicious meals. Between us we had, Seabass, Salmon, Cheesy cottage pie and Sausage and mash, all very tasty. Desserts and coffee were equally fabulous. Lots of character inside with a cosy feel in the area we were seated. There was a further dining room, which we didn't see, but looked lovely and was also full of diners.
We would definitely recommend The Anchor, and we will plan to return during our stay in the area. Thank you to all at The Anchor
