Broomfield Football Club

About

Broomfield Football Club is a long-established community club at the heart of Chelmsford, with roots dating back to 1905. Originally formed as a senior football club, it expanded in 1979 when it supported a local scout group in creating a youth team — leading to the birth of Broomfield Youth Football Club.

Since then, the club has grown into a thriving organisation, offering football opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. Today, Broomfield FC runs multiple adult teams alongside a large youth setup, supporting hundreds of local players from early years through to senior level. The club also hosts a popular Saturday soccer school for younger children, helping introduce boys and girls to the game in a fun and inclusive environment.

A Club Built by the Community

Broomfield FC has always been driven by its members and volunteers. Over the years, the club has developed its facilities with the help of dedicated supporters, continually improving its home to meet the needs of players and the wider community.

Following a major redevelopment in 2017, the club now benefits from a modern clubhouse and expanded pitches, providing high-quality facilities for football, social events and community use. The venue is regularly used for local activities, training sessions and private events, reinforcing its role as a key hub for the area.

Commitment to Development and Excellence

The club is proud of its commitment to player development, inclusion and high standards of coaching. It achieved FA Charter Standard status in 2010 — a mark of quality recognising excellence in coaching, safeguarding and club management — and has maintained this status ever since.

Broomfield FC has also received recognition at county level, including Essex FA Charter Standard Club of the Year, highlighting the dedication of its volunteers, coaches and players.

An International Connection

One of the club’s most unique features is its long-standing partnership with German club SV Sparta Werlte. Established in 1980, this annual exchange programme has seen thousands of young players experience football and family life abroad, creating lasting friendships and cultural connections that continue today.

Looking Ahead

Now operating as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Broomfield Football Club continues to grow while staying true to its core values — providing inclusive, community-focused football opportunities and a welcoming environment for everyone involved.
