A really great and well done local museum with loads to do for kids and toddlers. Friendly staff and cafe is nice too. Also playground and gardens available.
Only negative is the weekday parking is only 2 hours which feels quite restrictive, especially if you want a bite to eat as well. If it was bumped upto 3 hours would be alot better but this museum is still worth the visit!

Went in Chelmsford Museum for a long time as I can't remember when I last went there.
The admission is free. Browse around museum information about Guglielmo Marconi, Italian inventor of Marconi Wireless Telegram, who received a distress signal this time RMS Titanic stuck by iceberg. Hoffman Industrial, Roman era and many things from archaeology found pieces, history of Chelmsford, Essex Yeomanary Army and cafe as well.
I think there are 3 toilets from outside (public toilet), and inside of museum plus cafe as well.
Only quick look around for an hour then left.

A fantastic local museum that puts many others to shame. It's a huge venue with a lot to see and take in - many displays for all periods of history. I especially liked the fact there's a honey bee hive and that you can sit and watch the bees come and go through channels in the building to the outside!
The building is large and magnificent, and it's set in some lovely green grounds that are nice to walk around too. The K9 memorial statue is situated in the grounds if you want to pay your respects to fallen police dogs.
It's well worth setting aside an hour or two to fully absorb what's on offer in this museum. It's clearly been well thought out and is well maintained. There's no need to book tickets, it's free to visit, simply turn up during opening hours.
The gift shop at the end is brilliant too, stocking some local food and craft items alongside the usual memorabilia you find at museums, with friendly staff on hand to serve you.
Fantastic place, highly recommended.

Great Museum with a lot of artefacts - a perfect place for archaeology or history lovers. for military historians, the Chelsfield regiment room is packed full of history

My children love it here. The bees are so interesting to watch and they love collecting a tick list to find the items. It keeps them engaged and they are always excited to go. The staff and very friendly and helpful too.
